GEORGE DILLARD BROOKS (1877-1966) married CHARLIE MARVIN MEEK BROOKS (1880-1966). They farmed near Freeman Cemetery and are buried there, along with one INFANT DAUGHTER BROOKS (1904-1904). Their son, Dillard Brooks (1906-1995), and his wife, Ima McLean Brooks (1909-2000), were community leaders and life-long members of First Methodist Church in Martin. Dillard served on the board of directors at City State Bank. They are buried in East Side Cemetery in Martin.

Charlie's parents were FELIX and CHARLOTTE TEMPERANCE ATKISON MEEK, and Felix was a descendant of JAMES and MARY HENLEY MEEK. That family is discussed further in the Meek and Mahon page of this website.

Dillard and Ima Brooks's daughter, Marilyn Brooks Hammonds, lives in Kingsport, Tennessee. She and her husband, Wayne Hammonds, have two sons, Jason Hammonds and Kevin Hammonds.

In our bodies we carry the blood of our ancestors and the seeds of the future generations. We are a living conduit to all life. When we contemplate the vastness of the interwoven network that we are tied to, our individual threads of life seem far less fragile. We are strengthened by who we come from and inspired by the those who will follow.

--Sherri Mitchell Weh'na Ha'mu Kwasset

The cemetery is an open space among the ruins, covered in winter with violets and daisies. It might make one in love with death, to think that one should be buried in so sweet a place.

--Percy Bysshe Shelley, Adonais
