We've long had a tradition of visiting Freeman Cemetery to share stories about those buried there, as well as about the lives they led in the surrounding community and those who traveled far from this starting point. This page serves as a collection point for just a few of those stories, poems, and historical information related to the area and to those who lived and still live here. They are created by a variety of ancestors and members of the community.

In our bodies we carry the blood of our ancestors and the seeds of the future generations. We are a living conduit to all life. When we contemplate the vastness of the interwoven network that we are tied to, our individual threads of life seem far less fragile. We are strengthened by who we come from and inspired by the those who will follow.

--Sherri Mitchell Weh'na Ha'mu Kwasset

The cemetery is an open space among the ruins, covered in winter with violets and daisies. It might make one in love with death, to think that one should be buried in so sweet a place.

--Percy Bysshe Shelley, Adonais
